不過Thibodeau 的這個「若不是」，可是捱了非常多個球季；玫瑰從2012年的左側ACL、隔年膝半月板軟骨撕裂、腳踝扭傷，Rose身上的大小傷病不斷，讓球隊在2016年毅然決然放棄這名曾經替球隊登頂的大將。

要知道，在Rose之前，公牛隊雖然曾經有過Ben Gordon這名球星，但對比Jordan打造的超級王朝，公牛隊已經很久沒有這等「星度」的球星出現。

放棄玫瑰之後，Rose曾經在尼克、騎士隊打球；但2017年，Rose終於忍不住公開批評聯盟裁判，認為他身上的傷勢，或多或少和聯盟的吹判尺度有關，一度直接跟騎士申請離隊，甚至傳出要直接引退。

但澆水的人，這就出現了；這人就是前面提到的Thibodeau；2018年三月的自由市場，當年Thibodeau輾轉到了灰狼隊執教，在一次的公開訪問中，Thibodeau說道：「這個傢伙真的經歷太多了；我知道他是什麼樣的人、他的人格特質，以及他能散發光亮之處」也因此，玫瑰降臨明尼蘇達，甚至在2018年對陣爵士的比賽中，攻下生涯新高50分，幾乎再度震撼了NBA！
